Commodore Amiga Chessmaster 2000 (1986)

CHESSMASTER 2000 was a chess programm written by David Kittinger for THE SOFTWARE TOOLWORKS in 1986 and distributed by ELECTRONIC ARTS. After winning the PC Chess Championship of that year, it was marketed as “The most powerful computer chess program in the World today!”

A little exaggerated perhaps, especially since by 1986 there existed many dedicated chess computer available for purchase from many electronic retail stores, that would have easily beaten CHESSMASTER 2000. But, for a short period in 1986 that statement may have been true for chess programs for Home PC’s.

CHESSMASTER 2000 did however set new standards with it’s huge 71,000 move Opening Library as well as many new features which later became standard features in most of the chess software that quickly followed in it’s heels.
