Commodore 64 Emu Championship Chess (1985)

CHAMPIONSHIP CHESS written by Alex Ford for the Commodore 64 came out in 1985. It is however the famous SARGON 2 chess program written by Dan & Kathe Spracklen which was originally published in 1983 for the Commodore 64.

You can read about the original SARGON 2 here:

There is another budget version which also came out in 1985 called CHESS CHAMPION. You can read about the original CHESS CHAMPION here:

The instructions on how to use CHAMPIONSHIP CHESS are shown in the photos below. However, you must remember when using an Emulator that the position of the minus sign (-) on a Commodore 64/128 is the equal sign (=) on a PC. Therefore in order to enter your moves using an Emulator you must enter as follows: e2=e4 etc. !

The approximate rating for CHAMPIONSHIP CHESS is 1150 - 1250 ELO (1350 - 1450 USCF)

The Spacious-Mind Active game results (shown above) are from games played with a Commodore 64 or 128 with the original SARGON 2. Playing CHAMPIONSHIP CHESS with an Emulator should play exactly the same as using a Commodore 64 or 128.

Chess Game Examples

The game example below originates from the C64 Open Championship and was played with a real Commodore 64/128 and original Sargon 2 (not CHAMPIONSHIP CHESS) software, however the Emulator Software should play exactly as the original game.
