FIDELITY CHESS CHALLENGER “10” VERSION A

Version A is the early version of Chess Challenger 10. Later, in the same year Fidelity upgraded the software to Version B. Version A’s seems to have a slightly higher quality workmanship, but it is marginal.

CHESS LEVELS

The Average Response Times per move for each Chess Challenger “10” Level are as follows:

    • CL1 - BEGINNER -- 3 seconds.
    • CL2 - INTERMEDIATE -- 15 seconds.
    • CL3 - EXPERIENCED -- 35 seconds.
    • CL4 - ADVANCED -- 1:20 minutes.
    • CL5 - SUPERIOR -- 2:20 minutes.
    • CL6 - MATE IN 2 (2 Move puzzlers) -- 60 minutes.
    • CL7 - POSTAL CHESS (for Games by Mail) -- 24 hours.
    • CL8 - EXPERT -- 11 minutes.
    • CL9 - Excellent -- 6 minutes.
    • CL10 - TOURNAMENT PRACTICES -- 3 minutes.

Fidelity Chess Challenger "10" (1978) Versions A & B

At Schachcomputer.info there is an explanation on how to check which version of Fidelity Chess Challenger “10” you might have.

With Chess Challenger “10” playing White, when opening with the Queen’s pawn to d4. You playing as Black, can now force the following responses:

  1. d4 d5
  2. c4 c6

After you have played 2. ... c6 as Black, the two Chess Challenger 10 versions will differ in their next move:

    • VERSION A PLAYS: 3. Nc3
    • VERSION B PLAYS: 3. Ng3
